Alaya Art sponsored 29 Faces in September 2015.  I didn’t get all of my 29 faces completed during the challenge period but I am going to continue with them until I get them all done.  It has helped develop my skills so much that I want to make sure I make it through all 29!  Also, Kim Dellow over on her blog has a fun thing going called Art It Friday – Show Your Face.  I discovered it while browsing some linked blog pages on Julie Fei-Fan Balzer’s regular Friday post Art Journal Everyday post which she usually posts regularly every Friday.  I also found Paint Party Friday through Kim Dellow’s post.  This is a fun group, too!  There are some really talented artist doing all sorts of painty things over there.  Here is my entry for all today, which is also 29Faces-No. 20.

I kept it simple again this week.  In fact, I kept it so simple I only drew half a face!  I did an acrylic sort of washy background and let it dry.  Then I simply sketched the portrait on the background with a Stabilo Marks All pencil which is water soluble.  I added just a touch of watercolor to the lips and eyes and then added light to the eyes with a Sharpie Water-Based Marker–extra fine.  I was a little hesitant as the Marks All pencil is a little unforgiving.  No pencil this time.  No practicing or editing.  Scary!!  But I think she turned out fine.  Now, if I could only get a face where I could make both halves symmetrical…

I also participated in a fundraiser/painting activity today.  We made inspirational paintings using a vase & flower motif.  Someone had the bright idea for us to paint hydrangeas–good grief!  I’m not even particularly fond of hydrangeas!  But, I participated and I learned a lot and had a good time socially as well…bonus!  I don’t do many (any?…) canvases so this was pretty far out of my comfort zone.  I hope you get to do something arty out of your comfort zone this weekend.  🙂
