Yay! I had my second month as a StencilGirl Voices artist using the Stencil Club December set of stencils. The Fancy Houses stencil set was designed by Valerie Sjodin and is comprised of the following stencils:
I immediately figured out that they were designed to be interchangeable and to work together like a big block set. The lamp post and the stars along with the Christmas Season that is upon us inspired me to do a more seasonal themed design. I used my Strathmore Mixed Media Journal (8″x10″) which contained a set of pages that had already been covered with Distress Oxide inks from a previous play day.
I then decided to add the stencil design with a Stabilo All water soluble pencil. I liked the imperfection of the lines when I went over them all with a brush and water. I didn’t trace out every detail on all of the houses and I combined different pieces of the different stencils to create my own designs. The large stencil is 9″x12″ and my journal was only 8″x10″ so I had to be a little creative to get it all to fit within the space that I had.
After getting the outlines the way I wanted them, I then started adding the snow and the night sky.
From there, I added all of the rest of the details to the buildings. All of the details added were created with acrylic paint and colored pencils. I left some of the original orangey yellow highlights from the original background to shine through the windows. The stars were highlighted with some glitter paint just to add a little glamor to the evening. The words were added with a paint brush and white paint or dark blue-black paint.
I really like these little houses and all of the little textures that are included in parts of the designs. I know I will be using them again because they are so versatile and, honestly, because they are too cute not to!
Love your interpretation of this set. And those colors… puts me in the holiday mood.
Thanks, Jill! I enjoyed making it. The colors are mostly Seth Apter’s Paper Artsy matte acrylic paint colors and Prisma Color pencils. There is also some Deco Arts paints on it, too (the night sky is a mix of Prussian Blue, Golden Carbon Black and Golden Titanium White and the stars are Deco Arts Extreme Sheen with some other craft paint with large, round prisma gold glitter in it that dried clear touched on top). Thanks for dropping by! 🙂
