Alaya Art is sponsoring 29 Faces in September 2015. Going with a more imaginary feel again today. Also, Kim Dellow over on her blog has a fun thing going called Art It Friday – Show Your Face. I discovered it while browsing some linked blog pages on Julie Fei-Fan Balzer’s regular Friday post Art Journal Everyday post which she usually posts regularly every Friday. I found Paint Party Friday through Kim Dellow’s post. This is a fun group, too! There are some really talented artist doing all sorts of painty things over there. Here are my entries. The first is 29Faces-No. 4 and the second (from yesterday’s post) is for Paint Party Friday.
I was trying to do a more “imaginary” character to mimic Karen O’Brien’s style and this is what appeared. Kind of a hybrid of real and surreal. Couldn’t get the lips to do what I wanted them to do with the materials I was using so they are what they are. Another experience lesson for me. 🙂
I love these faces! They are something I wish I could do – less detail and still hold their expressions. Love!
Thank you! You should go look up Karen O’Brian. She is so good with manipulating facial features and yet the expressions are still very deep, even with mostly a line sketch. And she is the sweetest lady in person as well. A great artist!
Love the wine glass face, Happy PPF, Valerie
Thanks, Valerie! Never thought about it being that shape–and the fact that the colors I chose are more wine-colored is very coincidental! LOL!
Oh, I’d like to have wine glasses like that!
Thanks, Susu! Hee hee!
Love the pink-purple eyes on the first lady. Great faces!
Thanks, Hanna! I didn’t know if that color would work but I went with it any way. I’m glad you like it.
I love the violet eyes in your second image. Intriguing and emotionally expressive. Nice! 🙂
Thanks, Dayna!
I really like the shading in the first one and that you have used an unusual color for the eyes.
They are both beautiful but I really love the first one. Very clever
Thank you, Jeanet. Karen O’Brien was my inspiration for both.
Jill I love the first face – the second one is great, too but that first one really grabs me! Have a great weekend. 🙂
Thanks, Laney! 🙂
My first thought when I saw your first face was that we must have read the same magazine. I recognized Karen O’Brien’s style. I love the colors you used in the top one.
Think we did, Neena! 🙂 I’m just glad that my imitations are good enough that you recognize it as Karen’s style. That really means a lot to me! Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment.
Love the first one with the eyes, so fine eyes! And the face is really like a wine glass!
Too funny–everyone commenting about the wine glass shape. Even my husband saw it and said the same thing earlier today! Thanks for stopping by, Sirkka! 🙂
I really love your style! There is such a beautiful originality in the way you have drawn these two faces. I especially like the shading in the first one. xx
Thank you, Julie! I had a lot of fun doing both faces. The first one was a surprise the way it turned out but I really like it, too. 🙂
Ooo Jill, love them both, what fabulous faces! Thanks for linking up to Show Your Face and sorry I’m late coming around to comment! Thanks for the shout out too. Kx
Thank you, Kim! No worries. I have had a lot going on (along with some illness 🙁 …) so that has put some of my posts behind and I haven’t really been able to sneak a peak at anyone else’s sites either. Thank you for taking the time to come by AND leave a sweet comment!
I think these two may be my favorites so far. They have a fun quirky appeal for me. What a great exercise! Can’t wait to see what else you come up with.
Thanks, Kathy! (And I’m sorry my antibiotic brain called you “Linda G” the other day–I really haven’t been able to tell whether I’ve been coming or going lately. I sometimes amaze myself at how much excess capacity I have to screw things up sometimes! LOL)
