Kim Dellow over on her blog has a fun thing going called Art It Friday – Show Your Face Inspired by {Insert Name Here}. I discovered it while browsing some linked blog pages on Julie Fei-Fan Balzer’s regular Friday post Art Journal Everyday post which she usually posts regularly every Friday. I found Paint Party Friday through Kim Dellow’s post. This is a fun group, too! There are some really talented artist doing all sorts of painty things over there.
The new theme of “Inspired By” is to encourage everyone to try a different style that someone else might exhibit–giving credit of course to the artist of inspiration. 🙂 This week my artist of inspiration is Dina Wakley. I have taken a couple of her online classes and have really enjoyed them. The girl below was mostly inspired by that and one of her books.
I want to get better at sketching portraits so this is a good challenge for me to take to improve that skill. I was really rushed this morning–trying to get this done before I went to work–as I have been traveling and am again between trips and pressed for time to do ANY kind of art. This was the best I could do for a 15-min sketch in “Dina Fashion”!! Here is this week’s “face” for my post:
Very cool! I love DIna’s style, too. It’s so relaxed. I’m really impressed that you made her in 15 minutes!
Me, too! But I didn’t want to miss creating/posting a face so I had to do SOMEthing… I found an empty journal spread with a page that would work and went at it. The water used on the Marks All pencil was still wet so I couldn’t scan it right when I finished so I did my best to photograph it so I could get out the door–hence the somewhat poor quality picture. LOL!
A very beautiful take on Dina’s style.
Happy Friday, sweetie!
Love and hugs
Maarit
Thank you, Maarit! I hope you have a great Friday as well! 🙂
I loved your vacation photos! I don’t have to travel and find myself running out of time so I don’t see how you do it! I love your face better than Dina’s because it isn’t so cookie cutter. I love the boldness of it.
Wow! Thanks, Suz! I decided to make a decision to post and keep up my blog so I keep going. I was exhausted when I awoke but I was determined to draw a face before I left the house this morning. I now know a couple of things for sure, giving yourself a short amount of time to achieve a drawing (1) doesn’t allow you time to overthink it and (2) doesn’t allow you time to be overly critical–both of which I could do better at! 🙂
I agree! That’s why I find at least 10 minutes to do some art. Sometimes they are my favorite things because my habit is to overwork.
I like this face! And “Yay” to you for being committed to making time to create. Have a good weekend!
I can the Dina W inspiration! Nice face!
Thanks, Erika! 🙂
Impressive drawing, well done.
Very charming. Love the background….it really is perfect for the face.
Thanks, Wanda!
Wow, I admire you for getting this done before going to work! It looks great!
Well done for fitting in some art in your busy schedule. I really love the expression you got into this face in just 15 minutes – really impressive. xx
Thanks, Julie! Apparently these face sketching challenges are really helping me. 🙂
Wonderful Jill, I’m in awe. I love how you fitted her in to your day and she is fabulous, Dina is another favourite of mine! You know I’m glad you found me via Julie’s blog but I’m also glad that you have found other groups via my Show Your Face share too, it is so nice to be able share the blog love! Thank you for linking to Show Your Face and for your shout out too! Kx
Thanks, Kim! I am so grateful for the opportunity to have a place to post my blog links and to view blogs of other artists. It is really a kind thing that you and others do to allow those of us who have limited contacts to put our links out there for feedback and connection to others with similar interests in the art community. I am pretty much living in an art dead-zone and so having these lifelines of encouragement and other places to look at to gain inspiration are exceptionally valuable!
Great face!
