Alaya Art sponsored 29 Faces in September 2015. I didn’t get all of my 29 faces completed during the challenge period but I am going to continue with them until I get them all done. It has helped develop my skills so much that I want to make sure I make it through all 29! Also, Kim Dellow over on her blog has a fun thing going called Art It Friday – Show Your Face. I discovered it while browsing some linked blog pages on Julie Fei-Fan Balzer’s regular Friday post Art Journal Everyday post which she usually posts regularly every Friday. I also found Paint Party Friday through Kim Dellow’s post. This is a fun group, too! There are some really talented artist doing all sorts of painty things over there. Here is my entry for all today, which is also 29Faces-No. 21.
I really like getting back into some color so I did an acrylic sort of washy background and let it dry over gesso. Then I simply sketched the portrait on the background with a Stabilo Marks All pencil which is water soluble. I added just a touch of watercolor to the lips and eyes and then added light to the eyes with a Sharpie Water-Based Marker–extra fine. I added a little more watercolor to the hair and face and to her clothes. I used a stamp by Dina Wakley as inspiration.
I hope you have a beautiful, art-filled weekend! 🙂
Love the face, beautifully colours. Hugs, Valerie
Thanks, Valerie! 🙂
This one is different! I like her very much. The washes are beautiful.
Thanks, Suz! I’m taking a little more time to prepare some backgrounds before I draw now that I’m not trying to “crank out a portrait” every day. LOL I enjoy all the colors. I still think backgrounds are my favorite things to create.
Mine too. I have a hard time with every day. ICAD was ok though.
I love this sweet girlie. She looks like little red riding hood!
That’s what I was thinking when I drew her, Nancy. Thanks for stopping by and for leaving the sweet comment. 🙂
There are a lot of talented people out there and YOU are one of them! ? LoVe your layers of color and the transparency you achieved, Jill! ???
You’re too sweet, Ms. Jill! 🙂 Thank you for the kind comments! I love the layers, too! The more I try making them the more that I find things that I like more than others.
Beautifully rendered. I love the beautiful color and the luscious layers.
Thank you, Marji! Thank you for stopping by and leaving a kind comment. 🙂
I really admire the technique you have used on this portrait. The colours and their effect is wonderful! xx
Thanks, Julie! I think I’m finally starting to find some techniques that I like and that work for me. There are still some things that I like to do differently for the background but it will work itself out soon enough… Have great, arty weekend, Julie! 🙂
The face is wonderful and love the vibrant colours. Great art piece.
Thank you, Sirkkis! I love the bright colors, too. They are happy colors, I think. 🙂
